Thirty slaughtered Egyptian buffaloes at different stages of gestation (20-300 days) the placentomes were collected from 3 regions (tip, center and base) of each of the pregnant and the nonpregnant horns. Moreover, the placentomes of 5 abortedcases were taken from the base of the pregnant horn duringthe manual removal of the placenta. At the early puerperal period, 13 animals were included in the study; 6 animals having normal spontaneous release of the ”fetal membranes, whereas, the other 7 animals needed manual help in the release of the fetal membranes. The chorionic villi were taken from animals after spontaneous release of the fetalmembranes. Meanwhile, the placentomes were taken manually from animals with retained fetal membranes (RFM).The collected specimens were fixed in nuteral buffered formalin or in Bouin’s solution. The collected specimens werecleared in xylene and embedded in paraffin , the sections prepared for microscopic sectioning and stained with H & E and PTA.
