Abstract:
The present work was carried out to study the efficacy offlorfenicol (30 mg/kg b. wt.) and its combination at 15 mg/kg b. wtwith streptomycin 50 mg/kg b. wt against experimentally Salmonellapullorum infected chickens. Another goal was to study the side effectsthat could be reflected on liver and kidney functions and thehistopathological changes involving the vital organs.I. Efficacy of therapeutic regimen of florfenicol and itscombination with streptomycin in chickens experimentallyinfected with Salmonella pulllorum:Chickens experimentally infected with Salmonella pullorum andnon treated showed severe clinical signs (depression, loss of appetite, ruffled feathers and chalky white diarrhea around the vent)Treatment with florfenicol alone resulted in completedisappearance of clinical signs while treatment with its combinationwith streptomycin reduced the symptoms.11.Effect of florfenicol and its combination with streptomycin onblood constituents of chickens:l-Healthy chickens treated either with florfenicol alone or incombination with streptomycin displayed non significant decreasein erythrocytic count, hemoglobin concentration and packed cellvolume.
