Abstract:
Escherichia coli (E.coli) affect poultry industry causingserious economic losses achieved by high morbidity andmortality, loss body weight and low egg production. Thecontrol of this microbe is an important for poultry farms anddepends primarily on the prophylactic use of someantimicrobial agents such as gentamicin, ciprofloxacin .. ; etc.Gentamicin is an antibiotic aminoglycoside, which usedIn treatment of E.coli septicemia and coli-bacillosis in lamband chickens.Ciprofloxacin is one of recent flouroquinoloneantimicrobial, which is also effective in treatment of E.coliinfection in poultry. The present work was conducted to evaluate theantibacterial effect of gentamicin or ciprofloxacin in healthyand experimentally E.coli infected chickens. The sensitivity ofisolated E.coli strains of avian origin is investigated in vitro todifferent antimicrobial agents. The effect of therapeutic doseof gentamicin (5mg/kgb. wt sic) or ciprofloxacin (5mg/kgb. wtin drinking water) for five successive days on healthy andexperimentally infected chickens with E.coli was studied. Moreover, the effects of therapeutic dose of these drugs onhaematological picture as well as liver and kidney functionswere studied.
