Abstract:
Bovine babesiasis is of greater economic importance becauseof direct losses and restriction of movement by quarantine laws.Many animals die or undergo along period of loss of 11leat and mil kproduction. With early, effective treatment the mortality rate canbe reduced. Effective drugs are available for the treatment of thisdisease in cattle. Experiments were done to test the effectiveness ofimidocarb dipropionate (Imizol) for treatment of B.bigen1ina incattle and side effects of the drug in healthy cattle by usingtherapeutic dose, and in albino rats by using therapeutic and doubletherapeutic doses.Single therapeutic dose of imidocarb at a rate of120mgll OOkg was given subcutaneously for five healthy and fiveinfected cattle. Five unmedicated healthy cattle and fiveunmedicated infected cattle remained throughout the study ascontrols.Forty five clinically healthy adult albino rats was divided intothree equal groups. Rats in group one was the control. Rats ingroup 2 were injected twice sic with therapeutic dose of imidocarbwithin 24 hours intervals. Rats in group 3 were injected twice sicwith double therapeutic dose of imidocarb within 24 hoursintervals. Two blood samples were collected from five animals of
