Current status of gumboro disease in Egypt

Abstract:
In this investigation, one thousand and two hundred diseased and freshlydead chickens of different breeds and age,suffering from Gumboro disease were collected from different localities at Egypt. The clinical examination of affected chickens showedanorexia, depression, ruffled feathers, profuse watery yellowish- whitish diarrhoea, trembling, prostration and death. The post mortem examination of both freshly dead andsacrificed diseased chickens revealed haemorrhagic spots and /or streaks on thigh and breast muscles, swollen pale or congested kidney, yellow peripheral infarction of liver with or without linear haemorrhages, Bursa of Fabricius eitherswollen or atrophied , revealed yellowish gelatinous exudateon its serosal surface; opened bursa revealed either yellowcaseous exudate , petechial haemorrhages on its longitudinal.l folds, massive haemorrhage on its mucosal surface. The gastrointestinal lesions were petechial heamorrhages at the mucoosaljunction of proventriculus and Gizzard and enlarged haemorrhagic caecal tonsils with variable degrees of enteritis. The primary isolation of IBDV from pooled samples ofbursal homogenates were in percent of 66% (Ninety isolates) from total examined one hundred and thirty six bursal hmogenates.
