Some Biochemical Studies on Nigella Sativa with Special Reference Toits Effect on Blood

Abstract:
Nigella sativa seeds and its oil are widely used in folk medicine. The present study was done to determine the side effect - if present - onliver and kidney function, serum electrolytes, some minor elements andon blood picture.In this study the oil was administered daily in various doses fordifferent periods to albino rats it based on : Blood picture was evaluated.Serum analysis as the following:Serum calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, copper and zinc levels. Serum A:L T activity. Serum AST activity.Total proteins, albumin and globulins.Serum cholesterol level. Serum creatinine level.g) Serum urea level.The results are summarized as follows:Blood picture: There were no significant changes in haemoglobin concentration, erythrocytic count, leucocytic count, eosinophils count, basophils count and monocytes count. On the other hand, lymphocytosis and neutropeniawere recorded in doses 40, 100 and 200 mg / kg body weight for 7 daysand 50, 100 and 200 mg / kg body weight for 15 and 30 days.
