Abstract:
The present work was designed to compare the effect of omeprazole and ranitidine on acute gastric ulceration induced experimentally in male albino rats by stress. In addition, the effects of these drugs on the changes in the gastric secretion were alsocornoared . The different parameters studied for gastric ulcer were theincidence of ulceration, the mean ulcer score, the ulcer and preventive indices while those for gastric secretion were, the mean volume of gastric secretion, acid concentration, acid output, pepsinconcentration and mucus concentration .The tested drugs were given orally in a single dose by gavage ( stomach tube) or injected I.m (this for ranitidine only) immediately after starting stress . The following results were demonstrated: 1- Effect of the two antiulcer drugs on stress ulcer (byimmobilization) . The incidence of ulceration was lowest in rats pretreated with omeprazole and ranitidine in a doses of 5.4 mg/kg orally and 10 mg/kg Ilm respectively .
