Abstract:
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are excellent antihyper-tensive agents and are becoming widely used as first line therapy for chronichypertension in women of reproductive age owing to their efficacy and few side effects.The present study was contrived to pore over the likely hurtful effects ofACE inhibitor (captopril) on developing rat foeti tracing their early extra-uterine lives.I-Effects on developing foeti: The effect of captopril, orally given in therapeutic dose; 1.8 mg/200 gm b.wt.lday , on foetal development was investigated on sixty mPregnant rats were divided into six equal groups each often:The first group was left as control. The second group given captopril from the 1 st Ihrough the 5th day of gestation .The third group given the drug from the 6th Ihrough the l O” day of gestation. The fourth group given the drug from the 11thtrough the 15th day of gestation .The fifth group given the drug from the 16th irrough the 19th day of gestation and the sixth group given the drug from the 1 st rcugh the 19th day of gestation.
