Abstract:
Twenty nine stray dogs of different ages and sizes were collectedrandomly from and around Zagazig city, Sharkia Province, Egypt duringthe period from September 2000 to September 2001.They were condemned and examined for the external and internal parasites through many steps of preparation. There were 25 (86.2%) dogs infected with helminth parasites and all examined dogs (100%) infested with external parasites.Trematodes were found in 4 dogs (13.79%) of the examined dogs and in (16%) of the infected dogs with helminthes. Cestodes were ;recorded in 25 dogs (86.2%) of the examined dogs and (100%) of theinfected dogs with helminthes. Nematodes were detected in 16 dogs(55.17%) of the examined .helminthes. Two species oftrematodes, 4 species of cestodes, 3 species of nematodes and 4 species of arthropodes were recorded.The trematode species were Heterophyes heterophyes and Prohemistomum vivax with a prevalence of (10.340/0) and (6.90/0) of the examined dogs respectively.The cestode species were Dipylidium caninum, Taenia pisiformis, Spirometra erinacei and Diplopylidiull} nolleri with a prevalence of (86.2%), (24.14%), (3.45%) and (3.45%) of the examined dogs respectively.
