Abstract:
Pravastatin sodium a member of (HMG-Co-A) reductase inhibitor was orally given to hyperlipidemic rats daily for 4 successive weeks in a dose of 4 mg/kg of rat. Verapamil (a member of calcium channel blocker was orally administered to hyperlipidemic rats irats. The previous treatments were repeated again but with L-arginine(30 mg/kg b.wt.). Blood samples were collected at zero time and afterthe end of the experiment for carrying out OGTT, whereas bloodsamples were collected also at zero time, 1, 2 and 4 weeks post treatmentfor preparation of serum samples which are used for estimation of serumglucose, cholesterol, HDL-C , LDL-C and triglycerides. The results weresummarized as follows : Feeding of rats on fat-rich diet for 45 days resulted in a marked increase in serum total cholesterol, LDL-C triglycerides and low HDL-C levels. whereas, non significant changes were seen in OGTT, while a significant increase in se
