Abstract:
Aminoglycoside drugs are widely used in Veterinary Medicine fortreatment of diseases caused mainly by gram negative bacteria. The aim of this study is to evaluate the in vitro and m VIVOantibacterial efficacy of gentamicin; given intramuscularly in a therapeuticregimen; 5mg/kg.b.wt. once a day for 5 successive days, and spectinomy-cin given intramuscularly in a therapeutic regimen; 20 mg/kg.b.wt. twice with one day interval, and to determine the effect of each drug on the immune response of non infected birds and those experimentally infectedwith Salmonella pullorum. In the present study, 210 one day oldHubbard chicks were dividedinto six groups, the first group; 45 chicks, was kept as a control (non-infected, non-treated), the second group; 60 chicks, was experimentallyinfected with S. pullorum orally (0.2 ml x 108 C.F.U) and non treated. Thethird group; 25 chicks, was experimentally infected with S. pullorum and treated intramuscularly with gentamicin in a therapeutic regimen; 5 mg/kg.b.wt. for 5 successive days. The forth group; 25 chicks, wasexperimentally infected with S. pullorum and administered spectinomycinin a therapeutic regimen; 20 mg/kg.b.wt. twice with one day interval. The fifth group, 35 chicks, was given the therapeutic regimen of gentamicinand non infected. The sixth group, 20 chicks, was treated with thetherapeutic regimen of spectinomycin and non infected.
