Hygienic status of milk powder in sharkia governorate

Abstract:
One hundred random samples of whole and skimmed milkpowder, fifty of each, were collected from different localities inSharkia Governorate for chemical and microbiological examination.The obtained results revealed that the mean titratable acidity inexamined whole and skimmed milk powder samples were 0.15% and0.l3% respectively.The mean total colony count/g. of examined whole andskimmed milk powder samples were 7x 105 and 6 xl 05 respectively.The mean coliform counts (MPN/g.) of examined whole andskimmed milk powder samples were 8.4.The most prevalent coliform species isolated from examined wholeand skimmed milk powder samples were Enterobacter agglomerans(5.0%), Enterobacter gergoviae (3.0%), Escherichia blattae (2.00/0),Citrobacter freundii (2.0%), Citrobacter diversus (2.0%), Klebsiellaoxytoca (2.00/0) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (2.0%).The mean Enterococci count/g. of examined whole andskimmed lnilk powder samples were 35 x102 and 33 x102 respectively.
