Abstract:
One hundred and forty-seven female mice (100 C3H1HeN wild type and 47transgenic IL-5 mice) were used to study the role of eosinophils in themodulation of bilharzial egg-nodules in tIL-5 and C3H1HeN mice. Moreover, the efficacies of the snail homogenate, snail tropomyosin and wormtropomyosin were tested for vaccination of mice against schistosomiasis. Themice were divided into 14 groups. Gps.(1 and 2) were the control and consisted of 15 tIL-5 mice and 20 C3H1HeN mice respectively. Gps (3-7) served as experimental control. Gps. (3 and 4), consisted of 8 tIL5 and 8 C3H1HeN mice respectively, were vaccinatewith 100 SMC by tail immersion and sacrificed 8 weeks PI. Gps. (8 and 9)consisted of 8 tIL5 and 8 C3H1/HeN mice respectively, were vaccinated by tailimmersion with 500 ISMC then challenged with 500 normal SMC, one monthlater, and sacrificed 12 days post-challenge). Gps (10-14), consisted of 8C3HIHeN mice each, were subcutaneously injected twice with 1 weekinterval, with aluminum alum (l Ouul/mouse) ”gp.10” or aluminum alum
