Recently, ivermectin has gained a good reputation as the drug of choice having a broad spectrum nematocidal, insecticidal and acaricidal activities. Nevertheless, the seemingly promising future use of ivermectin, could be highly precluded by its side effeStemmed from this concept, the present study was designed to scrutinize the likely, if any, inimical effects of ivermectin on fertility of female rats, the development of their foeti and the wellbeing of their neonates.1- The effect on oestrus cycle:-In the present study, three equal groups of female rats, each of five, displaying regular oestrus cycle were used. The first group was subcutaneously injected with the therapeutic dose of ivermectin; 0.2mg/kg B.wt. in the ,diestrus phase. The second group was subcutaneouslyinjected with double therapeutic dose; 0.4 mg/kg B.wt. in the diestrusphase. The last group received no treatment and was considered ascontrol. The study pointed out that, ivermectin prolonged the oestrus phase in 40% of the examined females in the first group and 68% in the secondgroup.
