Some studies on the zoonotic aspects of Listeriosis

Abstract:
One hundred and sixteen human cases of high risk groups wereexamined (96 women and 20 preterm) for the occurrence of listeriosis.Only one case(1.04%) out of the whole human samples examined(96), proved to be infected with listeriosis. This case was aborted forthe first time and was 21 years old age. The history of the case andclinical symptoms were not diagnostic to listeriosis.The obtained results showed that Listeria species was not isolatedfrom the stool of preterm at the present study.A total of 110 animals of different species (30 cows, 60 sheepand 20 goats) were examined for the presence of Listeria species intheir feces. Five animals of these (one cow and 4 sheep) were positi vefor Listeria species (4.54%), 3 of them (a cow and two sheep) yieldedL.seeligeri (2.72%) and 2 (2 sheep) yielded L.innocua (1.81 %).A total of 125 milk samples were analysed for the presence ofListeria species from these 9 (7.2%) were positive to Listeriaspecies, from which 4 (3.2%) yielded L.innocua, 2 (1.6%) L.ivanovii,2 (1.6%) L.seeligeri, and 1 (0.8%) L.grayi. Buffalo milk was free fromListeria species.A total of 100• soft cheeses (50 kareish & 50 domiati) wereexamined for detection of Listeriae the result revealed that none of
