Experimental Pathological Studies on Some Plants Causing Infertility in Albino Rats

Abstract:
Fifty rats were used in this work and divided into 5 equal groups each group composed of 4 males with 6 females, the first group was given ! LD50 of Abrus precatorius for 60 and 90 days5 respectively. Second group was given _1 LD50 of Abrus precatorius forthe same duration. Third group was given! LD50lupinus. for 60 and5 90 days respectively. Fourth group was given ~ LD50 lupinus for the10 same duration.And fifth group remained as control.Clincial signs, appeared with Abrus Precatorius toxicity were anorexia, emaciation, and dullness, while nervous symptoms appeared in case of lupinus toxicity.Macroscopically, lesions in case of Abrus precatorius toxicitywere congestion which was the most prominent gross picture in mostorgans as brain, liver, intestines, lungs, heart, spleen, stomach andgreyish white liver and kidneys . While in lupinus toxicity congetion ofbrain, lungs and intestines.In addition to pale colored heart, liverkidneys, spleen ’and stomach.Microscopically, lesions in rats treated with Abrin characterizedby congestion and hemorrhage in organs beside hepato-renal damagewas common lesions. With depletion of the spleen. Degenerativechanges in brain, seminiferous tubules of testes could be alsonoticed.While in lupinus toxicity showed degeneration and necrosismainly in brain, spleen, liver and kidneys. Chronic endometritis, andgastroenteritis were the common lesions.
