Pathological studies on the toxic effect of cassava and sinapis arvensis plants on albino rats

Abstract:
198 adult albino rats (female and male) were divided into two groups to study the pathological changes which induced due to administration the extract of Sinapis Arvensis and Cassava plant.J- Tile first experiment on Sinapis Arvensis plant:A- 40 rats were used to induce the acute toxicosis by Sinapis Arvensis,30 rats administered _1 LD50 (6.674 gm/kg B.W.) of the extract of 10Sinapis Arvensis every other day. Ten rats were left as control.These rats died through one month.B- 40 rats were used to induce the chronic toxicosis by SinapisArvensis, 30 rats administered •J..-LD50 (6.674 gm/kg B.W.) of 20extract of Sinapis Arvensis every other day and 10 rats left as control.The experimental rats were sacrificed at 4,6 and 12 weeksrespectively.The clinical signs were rapid and shallow respiration, arched back,diarrhoea and conjunctivitis were seen. Some rats showed well developed edema over the sides of chest, loss of appetite and decrease in body weight.The gross changes in rats administered extract of sinapis Arvensiswere congestion in brain, thyroid gland, striated muscle, lungs, liver,kidneys, stomach, intestine and testes. The heart showed petechial haemorrhage. The liver was pale in colour in some cases.The histopathological changes in these rats were encephalitis, hypothyroidism, acute non suppurative myositis, myocarditis, bronchitis and alveolar emphysema.
