Abstract:
The present work was planned to study both clinical signs and the pathological lesions of ulcerative enteritis in naturally infected native breed chickens and experimentally infected quail. A total of 365 native breed chickens of, 1-4 months old,ei ther clinically affected or freshly died were collected from different farms located in Sharkia and Dakhalia Governorates, those birds were suffered from clinical signs with postmortem lesions suggestive DE infection.The recorded clinical signs were sudden deaths without any previous signs and some of the survivor birds developedruffled feathers, partially closed eyes, listless, diarrhea andsevere emaciation. The mortality rates reached 13.7% with higher rates among young ages. The lesions in chickens were characteristic and confinedmainly to the intestine and the liver. The intestinal ulcers located on the terminal portion of small intestine and ceci. The hepatic lesion was massive necrosis that may involve an entirelobe of the liver. The spleen was enlarged and congested. The remaining organs particularly’ parenchymatous ones showed lesions of toxemia (congestion, hemorrhages,hemosiderosis and degenerative or necrotic changes with
