Studies on Ringworm In Animals with Special Reference To Methods of Direct Microscopy

Abstract:
A total of 225 samples collected from different animal species ringworm, were subjected for direct microscopical after KOH (20%)preparation and culturing on Sabarouds Dextrose agar with chloramphenicol and cychlohexamidefrom 30 case of cattle ringworm direct microscopy revealed in 10 positive cases (33.3%) while only 7 cases (23.3%) showed positive culture. The isolated dermatophyte were identified as Trichophyton verrucosum ( 6) and T mentagrophytes (1). In sheep and gopositive cases while only 7 (12.7%) cases gave positive culture. Allisolates were idenufied as T verrucosumIn dogs and cats 90 cases were examined, from which 30 (35%)gave positive direct microscopy while 42 (47%) dermatophytes were the isolated. They identified as M canis (40), M gypseum (1) and T.mentagrophytes (1) .from 20 ringworm cases in horses , 8 of them (40%) gave positive microscopy while 4 cases (20%) gave positive culture . Isolated dermatophyte were T mentagrophytes (2) and T equinum (2)In 30 donkey cases direct microscopy revealed 8 positive cases (27%) while only 6 cases (20%) gave positive culture .
