Some Anatomical Studies on the Salivary Glands of the Goat

Abstract:
In this work, the morphological features of the major and minor salivaryglands of the goat were studied in 70 heads of adult goats of both sexescollected from Rod El- Farag market, Cairo.The rriacromorphology of the major salivary glands was conducted on30 heads using the’ ’simple dissection of the fresh and formalized specimens,where the gross anatomy, arterial and venous supply of the studied glandswere thoroughly investigated. In addition, the duct system of both parotidgland and mandibular gland was examined in 5 fresh specimens. Moreover, a sialography of the parotid; mandibular and sublingual salivary glands was done on 10 fresh specimens.The micromorphology and histochemistry was conducted on specimens taken from 20 fresh heads.Five fresh heads of both sexes were used for the scanning electronmicroscopy was also used for the clarification of the minute structure of the studied salivary glands.A brief review of the available literature on the salivary glands of the goat was cited within the text.
