Abstract:
Enrofloxacin and norfloxacin are a new fluoroquinolone antibacterial agents used in veterinary field for prevention and , treatment of respiratory diseases of poultry. They are used for thecontrol of colibacillosis,salmonellosis and mycoplasmosis affecting poultry industry that causing economic losses.Two hundred and forty, one-day old apparently healthy unsexed Hubbard broiler chicks were used in this work and randomly assigned to 6 groups (each contain 40 birds) distributed in battery cages as follow; .. non-infected and non-medicated (gp. 1), infectinfected and medicated with 12 mg of norfloxacinlkg B.wt. (gp. 4),infected with 0.25 ml of 2x1 06 CFU of E. coli and treated with 10 mgof enrofloxacinlkg B.wt (gp. 5), infected with 0.25 ml of 2x1 06 CFUof E. coli and treated with 12 mg ofnorfloxacin/kg B.wt (gp.6).Most of infected non treated chicks revealed severe clinical symptoms (listlessness, severe watery diarrhea, anorexia, depression, ruffled feathers, rapid breathing and gasping). Few cases of non- infected medicated chicks with enrofloxacin and norfloxacionly depression and mild diarrhea particularly during and 2 day P A.The infected treated groups revealed improvement in the clinicalsigns which disappeared completely 20 day PT. Mortality’. rateswere 20% in (gp. 2), 7.50/0 in (gp. 5): and 10% in (gp.6)
