Comparative clinicopathological Studies on diabetogenic Effect of Different Doses of Alloxan in Rats

Abstract:
Two hundred and fourty clinically healthy adult male albino rats wereused in our experimental work . Animals were divided into six equalgroups, each group consists of 40 animals and the six group represented the control group . The first, second, third, fourth and fifth group, each wasinjected subcutaneously with 80, 100, 120, 140, and 160 mglkg B.wt alloxanrespectively.Ten animals were sacrificed from each group on 12 , 24 , 48 hours and 7days post-injection (P.I.) with alloxan . Serum sample were collected to study the biochemical changes ( pancreatic, liver and kidney functions ).Tissue specimens were collected from each rat for histopathological examinations.In the first group (80 mg/kg B.W.), the c1inicobiochemical analysisshowed insignificant change in the serum levels of insulin, AST , AL T , AP, total cholestrol , total protein, albumin and globulin but glucose level was increased after 12 , 24 and 48 hrs.
