Abstract:
In the present study cattle and buffaloes were used to study thelesions of fascioliasias, paramphistomiasis and mixed infection. The samples were collected from different abattoirs at DakahliaProvince during the period from January 1995 till April 1996.The incidence and the lesions of the disease condition were recorded. The incidence of fascioliasis was (14.6%) in cattle, (4.94%) in buffaloes. The incidence of paramphistomiasis was (6.51 %) in cattle, (3.10%) inbuffaloes. the mixed infestation in fascioliasis and paramphistomiasis were(0.20%) in cattle, (0.06%) in buffaloesThe macroscopical lesions in fascioliasis were partial or completecirrhosis. In partial cirrhosis, the liver showed slight or moderateenlargement with dark red colouration. The bile ducts were slightlydistended with mature flukes. The wall of the gall bladder was thickened andpetechial haemorrhage on their serosa were seen.In complete cirrhosis the liver was enlarged, dark red to brownishcolour. The bile ducts were distended with adult flukes. The gall bladderswere thickened and had petechial haemorrhage on their serosa. Meanwhilethe rumens and the small intestine were normal. In case of paramphistomiasis, in severely infested cases the adultparamphistomes were seen in large number attached to the ruminal papillaeIn few cases the size of paramphistomes were large than normal. Inmildly infested cases the number of mature paramphistomes were few. Thewall of the small intestines were thickened and the lumena were filled with watery and inflammatory exudate. The livers were normal.
