Abstract:
Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are widely used for analgesicand antipyretic purposes in human.Diclofenac potassium, is one of the non steroidal anti-inflammatorydrugs, is recommended in the treatment of arthritis and osteoarthritisThe present study was devised to inquire into the adverse effects ofdiclofenac potassium on rat foeti obtained from dams intramuscularlyinjected with diclofenac potassium during different gestation periods.The effect of diclofenac potassium injected intramuscularly ; 2.7mg1200 gm b.wt. once daily for two consecutive days on foetaldevelopment was investigated on fifty mature female albino rats, usingtwenty five mature male albino rats for mating.Pregnant rats were divided into five equal groups each of ten.The first group was left as control.The second group was injected with diclofenac potassium on the 6th & ihdays of gestation .. The third group was administered with the drug on the 9th & 10th days ofgestation.The fourth group was injected with the drug on the 11th & lih days ofgestation.The fifth group was administered the drug on the 14th &ISth days ofgestation.
