Abstract:
Ninety albino rats were used to evaluate the pathological lesionsassociated with the use of some oral newly antidiabetic drugs(Metformin and Acarbose).The experimental animals were divided into 5 main groups. Firstgroup consisted of 20 rats, ten rats received therapeutic dose ofmetformin for one month and then sacrificed for postmortemexamination and the remaining 10 rats received therapeutic dose ofmetformin for 2 months by stomach tube and then sacrificed forpostmortem examination. Second group consisted of 20 rats, 10 ratsadministered double therapeutic dose of metformin for one month andthen sacrificed for postmortem examination and the 10 rats receiveddouble therapeutic dose from metformin for 2 months by stomach tubeand then sacrificed for postmortem examination. Group 3, consisted of20 rats, 10 rats were given the therapeutic dose from acarbose for onemonth and then sacrificed for postmortem examination and other 10rats were given the therapeutic dose from acarbose for 2 months bystomach tube and then sacrificed for postmortem examination. Group4, consisted of 20 rats, -the first 10 rats received double therapeuticdose from acarbose for one month and then sacrificed for postmortemexamination and other 10 rats received double therapeutic dose fromacarbose for 2 months by stomach tube and then sacrificed forpostmortem examination. Group 5 (control) consisted of 10 rats, fiverats administered tap water for one month and then sacrificed for
