Abstract:
The Nerium oleander leaves water extract andapplied the preliminary phytochemical tests andtests for detection of glycosides and alkaloids.2- The prominant symptoms, produced as a resul t oforal admin:istration of Nerium oleander cardenolideswit h d i If e ~ e n t dos e so. 7 5, 2 . 5 , 5, 7. 5 , 1 5 , 30 ,60, go and 120 mg/kg. body weight were vaginalhaemorrhages,abortion,constipation,loss of,body weight, narcosis, r-e s t Le s s n e s s , p o Ly u r e aand epistaxis. But the main post mortem findingswere subepicardial and subendocardial haemo-rrhages and pale mottling of the myocardium. The1 i .ve r we re en 1 a r g e d , con g est e d and yellow d i f f useHg s- of the duodenum and jeujenium and blood coltwas found in the vagina of some rats. Petichaeand ecohymosis were found in the ovaries, adrenalglands and kidneys.
