Abstract:
The present work was carried out to investigate the role of milk in transmitting some parasiticlarvae such as Toxocara vitulorum Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati and Trichinella spiralis.Examination of random samples from colostrum and milk of 412 dams of buffaloes and 259 cows were carriedfor detection Toxocsra vitulorumlarvae.Buffaloes, cows and bi tches were exP erimentally infected orally with embryonated egg:, of T’ oxocaravitulorumand Toxocara canisduring .i a tepregnancy and after parturition. Colostrum and milk sampleswere carried daily up to 30 days post-partum.No, Toxocara vitulorum larvae were detected in colostru~, and milk samples of all examined buffaloes and cows either naturally or experimentally infected.Newly born calves from experimentally infecteddams of buffaloes and cows developed infection wi thToxocara vi tulorum after 21-33 days -while, the calves (from healthy dams) that suckled milk of the infecteddams were free from infection. This result concluded that calves were infected p r en a t a Ll y and the milk of cattle did not play any role in Toxocara vitulorum infection.
