Abstract:
- The effect of antimetabolites on some biochemical parameters inblood constituents and liver glycogen content of female mice wasinvestigated.- For performing the present study, 210 white female mice wereused. They were classified into two groups as follows:I. The first group: non tumor bearing-mice (NTBM). It comprised 30female mice, and was considered as control group.11. The second group: tumor-bearing mice (TBM). It comprised 180female mice classified into three subgroups:2. It consisted of 60 TBM, considered as control.3. It included 60 TBM, administered with MTX.4. It contained 60 TBM, administered with 5-Flu.- Blood samples were collected from 3 female mice after being killedby decapitation, in clean tube containing anticoagulant and processeddirectly for the estimation of glucose, lactate, insulin, ketone bodies, free fatty acid, triacylglycerol, cholesterol, total protein and albumin.- Liver samples were collected and processed directly for thedetermination of glycogen content.- The obtained results could be summarized as follows:* Glucose:Plasma glucose content was significantly decreased in TBM, whileafter administration of antimetabolites it became slightly increased.* Lactate:The concentration of plasma lactate showed a significantly increasein TBM, followed by a decrease after administration of MTX or 5-Flu.
