Abstract:
Two-hundred and ten guinea-pigs (1-2 month old) of both sexes were usedto investigate the ability of using small dose of 10 FGM or single and multipledoses of 300 TSL to control fascioliasis. Moreover, the adult F. gigantica’fluke-extract and T. spiralis larval extract were tested for homologous and heterologousvaccination of guinea-pigs against each other. Each of 14 guinea-pigs (gp. 1) wasorally infested with a single dose of 10 FGM and sacrificed 15, 30, 60 and 90 dayPI. Each of 14 guinea-pigs (gp .. 2) was orally infested with 30 FGM (fatal dose).Each of 14 guinea-pigs (gp. 3) was orally infested with 300 TSL and sacrificed 7,30, 60 and 90 day PI. Each of 14 guinea-pigs (gp.4) was orally infested with 3weekly doses ofTSL and sacrificed 7,30,60 and 90 day after the last dose. Eachof 14 guinea-pigs (gp. 5) was orally infested with 10 FGM and challenged with30 FGM 7 days later, and sacrificed 30, 60,70 and 90 day PC. Twenty-eightguinea-pigs were orally infested with a single dose of300 TSL. Fourteen of theseanimals were orally challenged with 30 FGM 7 day later (gp. 6). Other 14animals were similarly challenged after 30 days (gp. 7). The animals of gps 6 and7 were sacrificed 30,60 and 90 day PC. Fourteen guinea-pigs (gp. 8) were orallyinfested with 3 weekly doses of TSL and challenged with 30 FGM, 7 day afterthe last dose and sacrificed 15, 30, 60 and 90 day Pc. Each of 14 guinea-pig (gp.9) was orally infested with 30 FGM and infested with 300 TSL, 7 day later andsacrificed 30, 60 and 90 day Pc. Each of twelve guinea-pigs was injectedintraperitoneally with 2 doses of Y2 ml of adult F.gigantica fluke extract with 1week interval and sacrificed 15, 30 and 60 day PI (gp. 10). Other 12 guinea-pigswere similarly injected with TSL extract and sacrificed 15, 30 and 60 day PI (gp.11). Each of 12 guinea-pigs (gp. 12) was intraperiteoneally injected with 2 dosesof 0.5 ml adult F. gigantica extract with 1 week interval and challenged with 30FGM after 2 weeks and sacrificed 15,30 and 60 day Pc. Each of 12 guinea-pigs(gp. 13) was intraperitoneally injected with 2 doses of 0.5 ml of TSL extract with1 week interval and infested with 300 TSL after 2 weeks and sacrificed 30 and 60day PC. Eight guinea-pigs were injected intraperitoneally with 2 doses of Egigantica extract with 1 week interval and challenged with 300 TSL after 2 weeks(gp. 14). Each of 8 guinea-pigs was injected intraperitoneally with 2 doses ofTSL extract with 1 week interval and challenged with 30 FGM after 2 weeks (gp.15).
