Abstract:
A total of 4300 fish for different species (3000 Tilapia spp, 840 Common carp and 460 Nile catfish were collected from different fish holding facilities for studying the incidence of eye infection in different fish species in relation to the season of theinfection were recorded. The most common etiological agents wereidentified. Three hundereds and twelve healthy fish, 104 fish from eachspecies of different ages were used to investigate the morphologicaland anatomical structure of the healthy eye, determine the pathogenicity of some bacterial isolates as well as trials for treatment of the experimentally infected fish were applied in vitro and vivo.The results showed that, the eyes of healthy fish are placedlateraly on both sides of the head, slightly rised above the surfaceofthe head without eyelids with no tear ducts, cornea are tinted, thelens are spherical, protrudes partially through the iris and nearlytouches the cornea.
