Abstract:
Summary:- In this study the effect of different levels of oxytetracycline, cholinechloride and cobalt chloride as growth promoters on health and growth ofTilapia nilotica was examined. Results obtained under experimentalcondition mentioned could be summarized in the following:(A) Oxytetracycline:1- The addition of oxytetracycline as growth promoter to the fish diet at0.8, 1.6,2.4 gm/kg ration increased the growth performance of Tilapianilotica fmgerlings. This increase showed variation in significantduring the observation period of 14 weeks.2- The mean growth performance parameter calculated for experiment-ation period showed a significant increase when the dose was 2.4gm/kg ration, histopathological examination revealed pathologicalchanges in liver, kidneys, heart and spleen of treated fish. Resultsobtained were discussed in view of the value of oxytetracycline asgrowth promoter in the literature’s and pathological changes observed.(B) Choline chloride:1- The incorporation of choline chloride to fish diet at rate of 0.7, 1.4gm/kg ration showed individual significant increase in some growthperformance parameter, while a dose 2.1 gm/kg ration showed nosignificant increase allover the experimentation period. The variationin significance could be due to high choline content of basal ration asthe required dose in literature is 500-4000 mg/kg (Halver, 1979 andJauncey, 1982b).
