Clinico Pathological Studies on Some Analgesic Drugs In Albino Rats

Abstract:
One hundred and twenty adult female albino rats were divided into four equal qroups, to study the pathologic changes in the liver and kidney functions and corrolte thiese results with the histopathological and histochemical changes under the effect of parreceived a daily dose of paracetamol (270 mg/kg. b.wt.), piroxicam (3.6mg/kg. b.wt.) or indomethacin (15 mg/kg. b.wt.), respectively forthree successive months. The fourth group was the control. The animals were equally sacrificed at the end of the first, second and third month of administration. Serum samples werecollected from the blood samples to study the biochemical changes.Tissue specimens were collected for histopathological and histochemicalchanges. The clinicobiochemica1 analysis showed a picture ofhepatocellular jaundice in all animals administered paracetamol,piroxicam or indomethacin, which varied according to the type of thedrug and the period of administration. The hepatocellular damage wasmanifested by an increased levels of serum GGT, AST, ALT, AP, total,direct and indirect bilirubin and glucose associated withhypoproteinemia.
