Abstract:
The effect of aging on some biochemical parameters in male and fernale white albino rats was investigated. The effect of different antioxidants administrationon some biochemicalchanges in aging rat was also concernedFor- performing the present study 144 white albino rats of bothsexes were used. The animals were classified according to their sexinto two main groups, each one was furtherly subdivided into sixsubgroups: Subgroup (I ) control young : ( 2-4) months old rat .Subgroup (11 ) control aged : (12 -27) months old rat. Subgroup (Ill ) aged rats supplemented with melatonin at adose of 0.27 mg/kg b.w daily for 12 weeks orally by a pippet.Subgroup ( IV) aged rats administered with ascorbic acid at ad~se .of 135 mg Ikg. b.w. daily for 12 weeks by i I mmjection Subgroup (V ) aged rats supplemented with vitamin A & E ata dose of 4050 i.u /kg. b.w respectively daily for 12weeks orally by pippet .-Subgroup (VI) aged rats injected with vitamiin E &selenium at a dose of 20 mg and 0.15 mg I kg b. w . respectivelyevery week for 12 weeks by i.m. injection. The effect of aging and its modulation by antioxidants wereassessed by estimating serum total cholesterol , triacylglycerol,
