Abstract:
Summary:-The present work is performed to study the effect ofmethylmercuric chloride on the functional status of liverand kidney of albino rats and the histopathologic changesaccompany it.Eighty healthy albino rats of both sexes were usedin this study. They were divided into 4 groups. The 1stgroup was given 1/20, LDso methylmercuric chloride twiceweekly for 2, 4 and 6 weeks. The 2nd group was given 1/40LDso methyl mercuric chloride by the same schedule. 3rdgroup was given 1/60 LDso twice weekly for threemonths. The 4th group as control animals were sacrificed48 h. after the last dose, and blood is obtained forserum separation for biochemical analysis. Specimens werecollected from liver, kidney, spleen, lung, heart, brainand fixed directly in 10% neutral formalin and processedfor paraffin embedding, stained with H & E formicroscopic examination. When the animals were given’l/20 LDso (1 mg/kg B.W.)of methyl mercuric chloride, the y-GTP, AST, ALT, A.P.were-significantly increased after 2,4 and 6 weeks.
