Joint affections in camels with special studies on synovial fluid

Abstract:
The synovial fluid samples were collected from radio-ulnar-carpal,intercarpal, carpo-metacarpal, tibio-tarsal, metacarpo-phalangeal andmetatarso-phalangeal articulations from camels at different localities atSharkia province. A hundred samples were collected from healthy malecamels of different ages, and eighteen male camels affected with septicarthritis and twenty fresh specimens (10 thoracic and 10 pelvic limb) fromZagazig slaughter hourses used for radiographic studies.I. The normal synoyial fluid samples were characterised Iu::1. fhysical characters:a. Colourless, clear and free from any flocculent material.b. Weak alkaline in reaction ranged from (7.75 ± 0.25 - 8.25 ±0.25).c. Mucin clot quality were normal.d. The volume varied from joint to joint according to the size ofthe joint. In general the larger joint size contains more synoviathan the smaller one.e. The capacity of joints varied from joint to joint and also fromanimal to animal and ranged from 24 ± 6cc for carpo-metacarpalto 192.5 ± l7.5cc for tibiotarsal articulations.
