Abstract:
The present study was carried out to explore the of biological studiesstatus of Trichomoniasis in pigeons. The representative samples of pigeons(squabs and adults) were collected from different localities in SharkiaProvince; [Abu Hammad, Al-Gaafaria, El-Asidia, Zagazig, (Shiba, Bahnaby,Bany Amer) and Helmia], from December 1990 to November, 1991.It was found that 225 pigeons out of 386 were positive for Tichomonas gallinae with percentage of 58.3%. The percentage of infection among males, females and squabs were 42.7%, 55.5% and 68.5% respectively.Seasonally, the percentage of infection was highest in spring to be(82.2%) in squabs followed by females 72.2% then in males 52.4%. Inwinter the infection was 66.7% in squabs followed by females 48.3% then38.9% in males. In summer the percentage of infection was 64.5, 53.6 and 48.7 in squabs, females and males respectively. In autumn the infection with T gallinae in squabs females and males was 57.l%, 48.60/0 and 43.80/0respectively.In the present study the parasite was cultivated on different media. The glucose-broth serum medium gave the highest population density of theparasites (600 parasites/ml). Simplified trypticase serum medium yield 450 parasites/ml and 300 parasites/ml in beef extract-glucose pepton medium after 48 h. post-inoculation.The parasite was also cultivated in chicken embryo via three differentrouts {yolk sac, allantoic cavity and chorio-allantoic membrane (C.A.M.)}•at 5, 9 and 11 days respectively. After 48 H.P.I. the maximum. growth of theparasite was on the (C.A.M.) in living embryos and their number ranged
