Abstract:
Pollution is one of the most important factors that affect reproduction of fish. So the present investigation dealt with the effect of lead nitrate as a sort of pollution on the reproduction of the most available fish (catfish, Clarias lazera). This study included 90 catfish which were divided into three groups, control group, first exposed group which was placed in a 2mg lead nitrate / litre of water and second exposed group which was in a 4mg lead nitrate/litre of water. The samples were takenmales and females after 5,10 and 15 days of exposure, then eachgroup was sexually separated into two equal subgroup (males & females subgroups). The present work aimed to clarify the endocrine respone, of some endocrine glands as adrenal gland, testes and ovary to this type of pollution by measuring its hormones as cortisol, testosterone and 17 p estradiol. As well as the examination of some reproThe obtained results revealed that the plasma cortisol levels exhibited a highly significant increase in all groups after 5,10 and 15 days of treatment. On the other hand the firstconcentration group showed a significant decrease in the plasma testosterone levels after 5 and 10I
