Abstract:
The present work was undertaken to study the spermmigration rate in the cervical mucus of normal and repeatbreeder cows in relation to some physical properties of theirmucus; namely the pH and the electrical conductivity.A tota 1 number of 240 norma 1 cl inica 11 y hea 1 thy cows, kept at a Governmental Farm at Domietta was used in thisinvestigation. Of these, 120 cows were sexually normal whilethe others were having a history of frequent breeding for2-3 regular oestrous cycles i.e repeat breeder cows. Twooestrus mucus samples were collected from the cervix of eachanimal; the first was collected at early observation of themarked oestrous signs, while the other one was taken at thesecond half of the oestrus at the optimum time of service. The pli+va l ue as well as the electrical conductivity of thec.m. was estimated for each mucus sample at the time ofcollection. The sperm penetration test was done on eachmucus sample using freshly diluted and one day old semenstored at SoC. The fertility rates of the cows were evaluatedby the number of services per conception and the open days. The follo~ing results were obtained:1- The mean pH value of the early mucus in normal cows was .
