Abstract:
Two hundred fifty five (255) chickens (one day old )were used in thiswork to study the pathogenesis of embryo-adapted Van Roekel strain inexperimentally infected chickens by different route of infection, Also fordetection of the virus in different tissues by using the rapid diagnostictechniques as FAT, ELISA which confirm the existance of the virus by thehelp of histopathological examinations. The chickens were divided into 5groups, 4 experimented groups and one control. Each group from theexperimented groups consist of 60 chicks and 15 control chicks. The threegroups were inoculated with 0.05 mil of 103 dilution of AE embryo adaptedvan Rockel strain at one day old by IIC, SIC, IIM route of inoculation. The fourth group was inoculated per-os with a double dose in drinkingwater at 5 days old. The mortality rate in infected chickens were 50%,30%,22% and 18% in case of the inoculation by IIC, SIC, peros, I/M respectively. The chickens infected with AEV by IIC, SIC route of inoculation showedgeneral signs; (ataxia ,tremors of head and neck and paralysis of the legs). The most prominent clinical signs in the goup which inoculated per-oswere general depression incoordination and diarrhoea. In case of I/Minoculated group, the chickens could not be move and had inclination to sit on their hocks. The lesions in the groups which inoculated IIC, SIC, per os weremostly similar and included congestion of submeningeal blood vessels of thebrain with perivascular lymphocytic cuffing particularly in birds which wereinfected with the IIC route of inoculation .
