Abstract:
The Present Work was conducted to study some Pharmaco- logical aspects of oxytetracycline (OTC) after its oral admin- istration at therapeutic dose levels (75 mg/Kg b.wt.) and dou-ble-therapeutic doses (150 mg/Kg b.wt.) in both healthy and infected fish.Oreochromjs nilotjcus fish were used to evaluate the anti- bacterial effect of oxytetracycline. Its effect on the growth rate and also the tissue residues were also investigated. Ad-ditionally, catfish (Clarias Lazera) were used for investigatingthe effect of the drug on isolated tissue preparations. The effects on Liver and kidney functions and histopatho-logical examinations had been also involved. The obtained re-sults are summarized as follows:Efficacy of oxytetracycline:The in vitro antibacterial activity of oxytetracycline wasevaluated against A. hyDROPhila isolate. Subsequantly, the invivo treatment measures were applied in Oreochromjs njloti-~ fish experimentally infected with Aeromonas hyDROPhila. The results obtained p roved that oxytetracycline was markedlyeffective in vitro and in vivo against
