Abstract:
The present study was performed to study the possible ef fects ofoxytetracycline on calcium and phosphorus levels in blood, bone andtissues as well as serum protein fractionation in four groups of catfish each of22. The first group was kept as a control. While the second and thirdgroups were given 75, 150 mg/kg B.wt. of oxytetracycline for 10 daysrespectively. whereas, the fourth group was given 55 mg/kg B.wt. for 20days. The results were summarized as follows: 1- Effects on serum, bone and tissues calcium: Oxytetracycline in doses of75, 150 mg/kg Rwt. for 10 days and 55 mg/kg B.wt. for 20 days produced an increase in calcium level of serum, muscle, liver and kidneys except in the fourth group which showed a slightdecrease in kidney calcium level. Meanwhile, a decrease in calcium levelof bone and spleen was also reported.2- Effects on serum, bone and tissues phosphorus: Oxytetracycline in doses of75, 150 mg/kg B.wt. for 10 days and 55 mg/kg B.wt. for 20 days produced an increase in phosphorus level ofserum and liver. Meanwhile, the phosphorus level of bone, spleen, muscles and kidneys was decreased.
