Abstract:
The aim of this present study was to investigate some pharrnacologi cal effects of Dalbergia sissoo ”EI Sarsoa”, an evergreen plant grown in Egypt on isolated organ preparationsand intact animals as there were no available literature about thepharmacological studies of Dalbergia sissoo could be obtained. The dried powder of the leaves and fruits of the plant was found to contain free reducing sugars, resins, alkaloids, saponins, tannins and unsaturated sterols. On smooth muscles, Dalbergia sissoo extract revealed a dosedependent inhibitory effect on the intestinal motility of isolatedrabbit duodenum. This relaxant effect was proved to be neither due to peripheral or central cholinergic blocking action nor due to antihistamine-like action. Also, it produced a dose dependentinhibitory effect on the force and frequency of uterine contractions. This results was produced in estrus and pregnancy. It has no activity on the rabbit aortic strip and possesses a beta ag onistic effect on the tracheal muscles.
