Pathological studies on cysticercus tenuicolliss and fasciola gigantica in some farm animals in sharkia governorate

Abstract:
Seventeen thousand four hundred and thirty-five farm animals (cattle ”2~90”, buffaloes ”2773 It, camels ”8554”, sheep” 1 079” and goals”2129”) of different ages and sexes were examined at Zagazig and Belbisabattoirs in Sharkia Province during the period from November 1989 laJuly, 1991 to evaluate the lesions induced by and Cysticercus tenu icollis separately and in mixed infection in each of the studied species.The prevalence of Fasciola ~i~antica was 23.42% (cattle), 16.WYr,(sheep), 12.3% (goats), 6.65% (buffaloes) and 0.18% (camels). Theprevalence percentage of Cysticercus tenuicollis was equal in sheep andgoats (9.8%) and camels (0.12%). The mixed infestation with Fascioliasisand Cysticercosis was noticed only in sheep (1.6%) and goats(1.7%).The lesion of fascioliasis, in animals infested with Fasciolagig;mt icl. were represented hy dilated bile ducts which replaced themajority of the hepatic parenchyma. Flukes were inside the bile ducts. Theepithelial-lining of the bile ducts showed degeneration, necrosis anddystrophic calcification. The mucosa of some bile ducts showedadenomatous hyperplasia and sometimes adenocarcinoma in goats.Eosinophilic globules were detected within the lumen of bile ducts, biliaryepithelium and periductular tissue specially in cattle, sheep and goats, these globules were usually seen in the non-infested bile ducts.
