Some Biochemical Studies On The Effect of Antibilharzial Drug Praziquantel on the Blood & Tissues of Rats

The present work was planned to study the biochemical effect ofpraziquantel on the blood and tissues of rats. Eighty (80) albino rats were taken from the experimental animalunit of the Faculty of Vet. Med. Zagazig Univ. and kept under hyagienicrneas u reme n t s, The sa mp Ies of blood an d t issue s were eo 11 ected 1,6, I 2 & 24 hours after administration of one dose and 24 hours after administration of 2,3 & 4 doses of praziquantel.Blood, serum and tissue samples were subjected to biochemicalanalysis for the following parameters:Total proteins and albumin (serum).1-Iron and TIBC (serum). 2-Hb (blood), 3-Glucose (blood). 4-G-6-P-DH (erythrocytes). 5-GSH (blood and liver). 6-Glycogen (liver and musc1s).7-The results obtained could be summarized as follows:The serum total proteins and albumin showed a significant decreasein the mean values after 24 hours of administration of 2 therapeauticdoses of praziquantel and a highly significant decrease after 3 and 4doses of the drug.
