Pathological study of e. coli infection in calves at sharkia province

Abstract:
Colibacillosis is one of the most important diseases of young calves that causing high mortalities in young calves during the first few days of life. The literatures concern-i rig mortality rate in young calves, clinical signs, andpathological alterations due to E.coli infection were reviewed. The bacteriological examiantion in this investi- gation revealed isolation of the pathogenic ~ coli from 61calves out of 124 calves during our investigation at the ageof 0-60 days. The incidence of E. coli infection in calves at Sharkia Province was 49.19% during the age of 0-60 days.The pathological alterationsln this investigation summarized into slight congestion of the pleural bloodvessels wi th proliferation andfibroblastic few cell 1 eucocyt i c’congestion infiltrations.of the Moreover, pulmonary blood vessels and focal haemorrhagic areas lnpulmonary tissue were seen, in addition to the presence of emphysematous and collapsed areas adjacent to the pneumonic areas. Different types of pneumonia in calves infected with~ coli were detected, where fibrinous pneumonia were seen in some cases, while the suppurative type were found in other cases .Suppurative consisted of central pneumonla was . liquefacti venecrose areas surrounded by dead and livingneutrophils, macrophages and lymphocytes.Degenerative changes
