Abstract:
The normal sequence of hormonal changes responsible for thecontrol of the estrus cycle is governed principally byhypothalamic-pituitary axis. However, this in turn, is modified byhormonal feedback mechanisms which themselves are produced asa result of gonadotrophic stimulation. Therefore, the overall control of reproductlon involves a delicateinterplay between the hypothalamic-pituitary axis and the ovaries. Thecontrol that hypothalamus exerts on pituitary gonadotrophin secretionis mediated by gonadotrophin releasing hormones (GnRH). It isproduced and secreted by hypothalamic neurons and passed to theanterior pituitary via a portal blood system.Buserelin (Receptal@) is the injectable solution of a highly activepeptide hormone which is chemically analogue to the natural GnRH.The natural GnRH consists of 10 amino acids (decapeptide) while theactive principle of buserelin contains only 9 (nonapeptide).
