Abstract:
This study was c o nd uc t e d an 75 stomach of adult healthy pigs, cats, dogs as well as sheep and goat of bo~h sexes. Each species was repsented by 15 animals, the samples weretaken from different parts of the cardiac region of these animals. Paraffin sections were prepared, and exposed to the following stains: H & E, ::; r o samon t s , lv:allory Azan, Van Gies::Jn, Orcein, Silver impregnation, Ferric ferricyanid,Wolbach’s Giemsa, Sudan black B, PAS, Alcian blue &Best’s carmine. Cryostat sections were prepared for detection of the following enzymes: Succinate and Lactate dehydrogenase ,Alkaline and Acid phosphatase, Adenosine triphosphate}Ion specific esterase. Also, our results revealed thatthe cardiac region repsented a narrow zone around the gastro-oesophageal openine ( in both dog and cat) oraround the omaso-abomasal opening ( in sheep & goat ) while it occupied about third of the Pig stomach. The cardiac glands were mucous in nature containingneut ra I mucopolysaccharides in pig, cat and dog, while in sheep and goat, these glands c o rrt a i.ne d both neutral and The parie:al cells were scattered along the cardiac\lands except in pig which lacked those cells. They ’ncreased in number to.wa.rd s the fundic region. Manysrge wi th varying shaped mast cells were observed
