Abstract:
This study was designed as an attempt to isolate and to identify thecampylobacter organisms prevalent in farm animals as well as studyingtheir antibiotic sensitivity in vitro to the commonly used antibiotic. Forattaining this goal 30 random samples of bovine prepnteal washes, 42aborted fetis, 158 uterine discharges, 7 buffaloe-preputeal wash, 11buffaloe aborted fetis, 39 buffaloe uterine discharges were collected fromdifferent private farms in Khalubia, Sharkia, Ismalia, El-Nonarea, inaddition to 86 ovine gall bladders were collected from sheep slaughtered inCairo abattoir to detect the possible existance of Campylobacter fetus insuch specimens Cultural characters, morphological characters andbiochemical criteria were done to identify the isolated strains. The obtained data revealed the presence of Campylobacter fetus sub.sp. venerealis in cattle with an incidence of 11.73% as 27 strains wereobatined from the totally examined 230 samples and in buffaloes it waspresent isolate were obtained from the totally examined 57 samples with anincidence of 12.28 % while Campylobacter fetus sub sp. fetus was isolated from sheep gall bladder with a recovery rate of 4.65% as 4 isolates were obtained from the totally examined 86 samples. The in vitro antibiotics sensitivity testing was done against the commonly used antibiodiscs and the obtained data proved that isolates of
