Furthyer Studies On Some Blood Parasites of Wild Birds

Abstract:
The present studies are carried out on blood parasites of wild birds in Egypt and North America. Wild birds were either live-trapped, captured for ringing or clinical cases. A total of 150 wild Egyptian birds representing 11 avian species (5 black-winged aegyptius), 12 buff-backed heron (Aredeola ibis ibis), 10 Egyptianhoopoe (Upupa epops major), 45 house sparrow (Passer domesticus) and8 hooded crow (Corvus corne sardonius) were examined for blood parasites. Ten (6.7%) birds from three different species (6 Athene noctua glaux, 2 Bubo virginianus and 2 (Tyto alba alba), all belonging to raptors were infected with blood parasites. Of the Also, a total of 88 North American birds representing 15 species (5red tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis), 1 red shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus), 56 American kestrel (Falco sparverius), 1 merlin falcon (Falco columbarius), 1 peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), 1 crested caracara (Polyborus plane us), 4 great homed owl (Bubrachyrhynchos), scrub jay (Aphelocoma coerulescens), 1 blue jay
