An approach to abdominal surgery in the camel

Abstract:
The present investigation on the camel ( Camelus dromedarius ) revealed the possibility of performing different surgical operations on some abdominal organs. A comprehensive topographical enatomy of the abdominal region as well as the cnatomical relationsoperative procedure could be detected.Both right and left f12nks were preffered as a predilection seats for laparotomy, whereas the median orparamedian lines incisions were not recommended.Rumenotomy, splenectomy, entcrotolllY, enterectomy andovariectomy were expermentally car~ied out with great success, perfect ease and without complications. (Local and pariJ.vertebral anaesthesio. using 2-4% .procaine hydrochloride solution with adrenaline wereapplied for the performance of most of the Inentionedoperations. The anaesthesia was preceded by the injectionof Combelen (Bayer) or Neurazine (I,:isr) as trc.nquillizers.Some other cases were operated upon under the influence ofde~p narcosis using chloral hydrnte combelen mixture.It has been found that intestinal and oV2rian approachesare only accessible through the right flank and impracticable
